The collection of interconnected stories “The Days of Gaza,” explores the deep human suffering and shared trauma of Palestinians and Israelis in the midst of the ongoing conflict. The central narrative focuses on Abira, a Palestinian schoolteacher. Moved by a shared dream with an injured Israeli girl named Shir, she resolves to tell both their stories, recognizing their common pain. Other stories in the collection depict acts like desperate escape, a rescue that forms a bond between a Palestinian girl and an Israeli soldier, and a forbidden love between a Palestinian artist and an Israeli analyst. Ultimately, the work champions the idea that pain and trauma transcend borders, emphasizing that empathy and storytelling are crucial acts of resistance (Sumud) necessary to end the cycle of revenge.
